Michigan Ross MBA Structure and Curriculum
At Ross, the academic year is divided into two 14-week terms, i.e. Fall and Winter. Each of these two terms is further divided into two seven-week sessions.
Thus, as a result, students have Fall A, and Fall B terms followed by Winter A and Winter B. Many Ross classes are taught within the short 7-week timeframe; however, some courses may span the entire 14-week period.
First-Year Core Curriculum
The first-year core curriculum consists of nine courses plus the Multidisciplinary Action Project (MAP). The Multidisciplinary Action Project is the signature experiential learning opportunity provided to Ross students. It constitutes the entire final quarter of the first year, and no other classes are taken during this time.
Multidisciplinary Action Project
In the MAP, teams of 4-6 students work in conjunction with a faculty advisor for a corporation/non-profit or a startup to solve real-life business problems. Since the inception of the MAP, student teams have completed over 1900 assignments for more than 1300 sponsors in nearly 100 countries across the globe.
Electives and Courses at other Graduate School Programs
Besides the core courses, students are free to take the courses they want to fulfil the 57 credit requirements for graduation. Students can also take up to 10 hours of coursework outside of Ross at the University of Michigan’s numerous other graduate school programs.
These include the Ford School of Public Policy, the School of Natural resources and Environment, and the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. Moreover, second-year students can participate in independent study projects and classes at the Washington campus.
