Say you’re aiming for the Round 1 deadline at a competitive MBA program like Wharton.  Timing your GMAT becomes crucial. Here’s a streamlined approach to select the right GMAT test date for Wharton.

1. Identify the Deadline: Identify the earliest application deadline for your target school, September 6th in the case of Wharton. This marks the final day you can submit your application.
2. Allocate Time for Filling in Your Application: Dedicate at least one month before the deadline to prepare your application, including essays, resumes, and letters of recommendation.
3. Identify the latest date by which you need a GMAT Score, with room for a Possible Retake: GMAT rules require a 16-day waiting period before a Retake, making it vital to include this buffer in your schedule in the event that we fall shy of our target score in the first attempt. Hence our retake score must be ready by the 6th of August. 
4. Set a GMAT Test Date (First Attempt): With a buffer of 2 to 3 weeks to prepare for and attempt a Retake, you must aim to take the first attempt at the GMAT by mid July. 
5. Assess Preparation Start Date: Based on a starting GMAT score estimate of 565, begin your study around the first week of May to achieve your target score of 715 within approximately two and a half months. Adjust your prep time based on your Starting Ability and Weekly Study time commitments.

Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the owner of the GMAT exam offers it on many days throughout the year. There are no fixed dates. If you live in a city, there is a high probability that you can schedule GMAT exam almost every day of the week. As far as the timing of the test is concerned, you can schedule the test in the morning, afternoon or evening based on test center availability. 

So, the GMAT exam date can be scheduled according to your convenience, and in case you need to retake the test, you can do so after a gap of 16 days. Also, you can appear for the GMAT a maximum of 5 times a rolling 12 month period.

2. Start the GMAT Registration Process: Once your account is created, log in and navigate to the GMAT registration section. Here, you’ll find the option to start a new GMAT registration, select the GMAT format of the exam you wish to continue with.
3. Enter Your Personal Information: Fill in the required personal details. This typically includes your full name (as it appears on your identification documents), date of birth, address, and contact information. Ensure that this information is accurate, as it will be used for your test registration and score reports.
4. Enter Optional Information: This step involves providing additional information that is not mandatory but can be useful. It includes details such as your educational background, work experience, and native language. This data helps in personalizing your experience and may be used for statistical purposes.

Can you Reschedule or Cancel GMAT Exam?

You can reschedule your exam online at mba.com or by phone by calling GMAT Candidate Services. Current fees are available on mba.com.

Yes, you can cancel or reschedule your GMAT exam appointment, but it comes with a fee depending on how close you are to your scheduled date. If you reschedule more than 60 days in advance, the fee is US$55 for test center exams and US$60 for online exams. For 15-60 days before the appointment, the fee increases to US$110 for test center exams and US$120 for online exams. Rescheduling within 14 days of the exam costs US$165 at a test center and US$180 online.

If you choose to cancel, refunds vary based on timing. Cancel more than 60 days in advance to receive a US$110 refund for test center exams or US$120 for online exams. For cancellations 15-60 days before the exam, the refund drops to US$80 (test center) or US$90 (online). If you cancel within 14 days of the exam, you’ll only receive US$55 (test center) or US$60 (online).
