Beyond Time Tracking: Launching your “Study Streak Rings”

Beyond Time Tracking: Launching your “Study Streak Rings”
A 6 min read

I’m excited to announce the launch of Study Streak Rings, completely revamped Time Spent Dashboard.  This powerful new feature is designed to transform how students track, analyse, and improve their GMAT study habits.

Why We Built This

Every day, I see dedicated GMAT aspirants who put in countless hours of study but still struggle to reach their target scores. The missing piece? Consistency and accountability.

As one student recently told me: “I feel like I’m studying all the time, but my scores aren’t improving.” When we analysed their actual study patterns, we discovered significant gaps between perception and reality.

This disconnect inspired us to create a dashboard that functions like a personal study coach – highlighting patterns, identifying issues, and providing actionable feedback.

What’s New in the Time Spent Dashboard

Before

After

The enhanced dashboard goes far beyond simple time tracking to provide comprehensive insights into your study habits:

1. Consistency & Diligence Metrics

  • Track not just if you showed up (consistency) but if you put in your committed time (diligence)
  • Visual progress streak indicators with meaningful badges that evolve as your habits improve
  • Clear percentage calculations to measure both attendance and time commitment fulfilment

2. Detailed Visual Analysis

  • Daily study time visualization with comparison to committed hours
  • Color-coded indicators showing days where goals were met, missed, or exceeded
  • Weekly goal progress tracking with intuitive visual feedback

3. Personalized Feedback System

  • Dynamic messaging that adapts based on your performance patterns
  • Badges that reflect your current consistency and diligence level
  • Actionable recommendations to improve study effectiveness

4. Comprehensive Activity Integration

  • Categorizes study by learning stages to ensure balanced preparation
  • Shows exactly where your time is being spent across different subject areas

Why This Matters

The difference between a 605 and a 705 on the GMAT often isn’t about knowledge—it’s about consistent, effective study habits. As our data shows, studying for 15 minutes when you’ve committed to 2 hours is like walking for 5 minutes when you need 30 minutes of rigorous running. Both lead to the same place: nowhere.

This dashboard makes the invisible visible. It reveals patterns that might be sabotaging your progress:

  • Consistent weekday discipline but weekend disappearances
  • Daily logins but insufficient quality study time
  • Unrealistic time commitments that set you up for failure

Example Case Studies

1. 7 day Good Performance

This student achieved an outstanding week with 100% consistency and 127% diligence, exceeding their study commitments across all seven days. Note the star badge indicating excellent performance, with green check marks showing daily goals achieved. The chart clearly shows blue bars (actual study time) consistently matching or exceeding the orange bars (committed time).

2. Average good performance

This student in currently at their mid-week where they maintained perfect attendance (100% consistency) but achieved 75% of their committed study hours. The star badge shows they’re performing well overall, though there’s room for improvement. Notice how they consistently show up but don’t always complete their full committed hours, with stronger performance on specific days (Monday, Tuesday).

3. Bad performance

This dashboard shows a concerning pattern with 57% consistency and only 24% diligence. Red alert icons highlight critical days where the student either missed studying entirely or fell significantly short of commitments. The warning message indicates “Critical: Learning Goals Unlikely” – signaling an urgent need to reset study habits to get back on track.

How to read your data?

Understanding Your Achievement Badges

Our new dashboard features a dynamic badge system that provides instant visual feedback on your study habits. These badges evolve as your study patterns change, giving you clear indicators of your progress and areas for improvement.

Diligence Badges: What They Mean

Your diligence score represents how well you’re meeting your committed study hours. Here’s what each badge signifies:

Getting Started

Appears on your first day of study activity. Everyone starts somewhere! This badge acknowledges you’ve begun your GMAT journey.

Perfect Execution (100%)

Awarded when you’ve matched your committed study hours exactly. This badge celebrates precision and perfect execution of your study plan.

Strong Performance (75-99%)

Shows you’re consistently hitting most of your committed study time. You’re on the right track with just minor adjustments needed.

Moderate Performance (56-74%)

Indicates you’re making steady progress but have room to improve. You’re putting in effort but not quite reaching your time goals.

Needs Attention (45-55%)

Signals that your study time is falling significantly short of your commitments. This is a critical point where intervention is needed to prevent further decline.

Critical Concern (Below 45%)

Indicates a serious disconnect between your study plan and reality. This badge serves as an urgent call to reassess your approach and make immediate changes.

Understand your metrics

The circular progress meter displays your current status with a growth chart badge in the center, indicating moderate performance. The two rings represent your key metrics:

  • Consistency (67%): The blue inner ring measures how often you show up to study. This score indicates you were active on 67% of the days that have passed in the current week. In other words, you showed up to study on about two-thirds of your scheduled days.
  • Diligence (57%): The green outer ring reflects how much of your committed study time you’ve completed on the days you were active. Calculated as total time studied divided by total committed study time, your score of 57% means you’ve completed just over half of your planned study hours.

The growth chart icon in the center reflects your performance level in the moderate range (56-74% of commitments met), suggesting steady progress but with clear room for improvement.

This visual summary helps you instantly understand where you stand in your GMAT preparation journey and specifically identifies whether your challenge is showing up consistently or putting in your full committed time when you do study.

Your Daily Performance:

The daily performance tracker provides a clear visual representation of your study consistency throughout the week. Each day is represented by a distinct circle with color-coding and icons that instantly communicate your study status:

  • Green circles with flame icons indicate exceptional days where you reached/exceeded your committed study time
  • Green circles with checkmarks show days where you could not meet your time goals
  • Circles with warning icons highlight missed study days.

The green ring around each circle visually represents the percentage of your committed time that you actually completed, giving you an immediate sense of how close you came to your goals.

This intuitive visualization makes it easy to identify patterns in your study routine, spot your strongest and weakest days, and make targeted adjustments to optimize your GMAT preparation. By tracking your daily performance over time, you can develop the consistent study habits that are essential for GMAT success.

What’s Next

This launch represents just the beginning of our commitment to bringing advanced analytics and personalized coaching to your GMAT preparation. In the coming months, we’ll be expanding these insights to provide even more granular feedback on study quality, topic mastery progression, and predictive score improvements.

I’d love to hear your feedback as you use this new feature. What patterns has it revealed in your study habits? What insights have been most valuable? Share your experiences in the comments below!

Happy studying, and may your GMAT journey be both consistent and rewarding.
