Note carefully how the article \u201cthe\u201d is used before \u201cfreshwater snails\u201d. \u00a0Thus there are multiple types of freshwater snails, but the author is explicitly talking about the freshwater snails that act as the hosts for the parasite in question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
