After taking a few mock tests he was able to pinpoint his weakness and work on them one by one. From the Mock tests he took, it was pretty evident that his GMAT Verbal section was weak as compared to Quant. Thus, he started the e-GMAT verbal course as it had <a href=\"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/reviews\/e-gmat-6\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">good reviews online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the GMAT Verbal section, his<strong> primary focus was on sentence correction.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>First Attempt: What Went Wrong?<\/h3>\n<p>After focusing on improving his Verbal section, his verbal score was similar to the mock test scores. He was able to understand the overall concept but was <strong>not able to use the meaning-based approach.<\/strong> Moreover, his Quant score also went down because of the lack of preparation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>He scored 680 on the GMAT with Q49 and V33. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After realizing his mistake in the first attempt, he was able to target areas in which he can improve his score.<\/p>\n<h3>The Turning Point in GMAT Preparation<\/h3>\n<p>For his second attempt, he gave himself time to understand the meaning before answering the question, rather than just solving it. He was able to identify:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Which sentence is wrong in the meaning?<\/li>\n<li>Which meanings were making sense?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Farman was also able to improve his Quant score by regularly practicing through his e-GMAT account.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>You might think that a meaning-based approach will take more time to solve each question. However, once you start practicing, you will be able to implement this approach quickly to a problem.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After continuous practice, Farman was able to <strong>reduce his timing to solve a question, while following the meaning-based approach. <\/strong>He was able to get to the meaning as soon as he read a sentence, which also<strong> helped him in improving his CR and RC score.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>From 680 to 760 on the GMAT<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-28618\" src=\"https:\/\/e-gmat.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/gmat-exam-anxiety-and-stress-300x182.png\" alt=\"Avoid GMAT Exam Anxiety and Stress\" width=\"588\" height=\"357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/e-gmat.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/gmat-exam-anxiety-and-stress-300x182.png 300w, https:\/\/e-gmat.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/gmat-exam-anxiety-and-stress.png 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 588px) 100vw, 588px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A couple of months before his second attempt, Farman gave mock tests where he scored around 730. But he was still not confident enough to take the test.<\/p>\n<p>However, he took the exam to check how he is performing in the real-time exam environment.<\/p>\n<p>Before taking the GMAT, <strong>he had a positive mindset.<\/strong> He wanted to test his performance and took the GMAT exam as a practice test.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Besides, having a positive mindset got him an extra 30 points on the GMAT!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He scored 760 (Q51, V41) in his second attempt. <\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/egmat-my.sharepoint.com\/personal\/lekhika_e-gmat_com\/Documents\/He%20gave%20himself%20time%20to%20understand%20the%20meaning-based%20approach,%20rather%20than%20just%20solving%20questions.%20He%20was%20able%20to%20identify:\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">Are you having GMAT anxiety? Here are 10 tips for tackling it.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Getting-into-dartmouth-tuck-mba-farman-success-story\">Getting into Dartmouth Tuck MBA Program<\/h2>\n<p>Farman had applied to five business schools:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/e-gmat.com\/blogs\/columbia-business-school-mba-facts-statistics\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Columbia Business School<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/e-gmat.com\/blogs\/chicago-booth-mba-facts-statistics\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Booth School of Business<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/e-gmat.com\/blogs\/kellogg-mba\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kellogg School of Management<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/e-gmat.com\/blogs\/michigan-ross-mba-facts-statistics\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ross School of Business<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/e-gmat.com\/blogs\/dartmouth-tuck-mba-class-profile-employment-report-notable-alumni\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dartmouth Tuck School of Business<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Based on his MBA application, he got interview calls from \u2013 Kellogg, Tuck, and Ross. There was a considerable gap between each interview, which gave him time to improve his interview skills.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/e-gmat.com\/blogs\/mba-application-mistakes-to-avoid\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Avoid these MBA application mistakes and make it to your dream business school<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>For his first interview with the Kellogg School of Management, he did not have much practice and faced difficulties in answering the behavioral questions. For example, tell us about a time where you had a conflict with your co-worker, and how did you resolve it?<\/p>\n<p>He did have a set of stories in his mind but was <strong>not able to structure it properly during the Kellogg interview.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Practice Makes you perfect!<\/h3>\n<p>After his Kellogg interview, he jotted down the questions asked and was able to figure out where he went wrong while answering those questions.<\/p>\n<p>He did almost 10-12 video recordings to analyze and improve on his answer delivery. His post-MBA goal is to get into management consulting, and both Tuck and Ross were a great fit for it.<\/p>\n<p>However, Farman felt more connected to the Tuck School of Business environment after talking to its Admissions committee and Alumni.
