If the enclosure has full width and reduced length rather than full length and reduced width, how much less fence will be needed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>2(1\/2)<\/li><li>5<\/li><li>10<\/li><li>15<\/li><li>20<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Source<\/td><td>OG 2020<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>PQID<\/td><td>PS98502.01<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Type<\/td><td>Problem Solving<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Topic<\/td><td>Geometry<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Sub-Topic<\/td><td>Polygon<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Difficulty<\/td><td>Hard<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-solution\">Solution<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-given\"><strong><u>Given<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In this question, we are given<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>A rectangular lawn is 30 feet wide and 40 feet long.<\/li><li>Three-fourth of the area of the lawn is to be enclosed by a rectangular fence.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-to-find\"><strong><u>To Find<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We need to determine<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The less amount of fence required, if the enclosure has full width and reduced length, compared to full length and reduced width.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-approach-working\"><strong><u>Approach &amp; Working<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Area of lawn = 30 \u00d7 40\n<ul>\n<li>3\/4<sup>th<\/sup> of the area of lawn = \u00be(30 \u00d7 40) = 30 * 30<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Case 1:<\/u><\/strong> <em>When full width will be fenced, and reduced length will be fenced.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Width = 30 feet\n<ul>\n<li>30 * L = 30 * 30<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li><li>Hence, length = 30 feet<\/li><li>Length of fence needed = 2(30 + 30) = 120 feet<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Case 2:<\/u><\/strong> <em>When full length will be fenced, and reduced width will be fenced<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Length = 40 feet\n<ul>\n<li>40 * W = 30 * 30\n<ul>\n<li>W = 22.5 feet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Length of fence needed = 2(40 + 22.5) = 125 feet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Difference in length of fence needed = 125 &#8211; 120 = 5 feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence, option B is the correct answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Takeaways:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>For the same area, the perimeter of a rectangle could be different depending on the length and breadth of the rectangle.<\/li><li>When the area of a rectangle and the length of one of the sides is known, the length of the other side can be determined as (Area of the rectangle\/length of one side).<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PQID: PS98502.01 | OG 2020: Question No. 98 Three-fourths of the area of a rectangular lawn 30 feet wide by 40 feet long is to be enclosed by a rectangular fence.
