A technologist at heart, Rajat believes that technology, when applied to a well-defined problem, can lead to unbelievable results. He is a firm believer in the mantra that solutions present themselves once we ask the right questions. His love affair with technology started at the age of 10 when he started tinkering with electronics. At 12, Rajat built his first radio receiver using vacuum tubes. At 13, he built a wireless transmitter that had a range of 50 feet.
Rajat mastered the skill of taking standardized tests at an early age by scoring better than 99 percentile on most exams including the CET (the Indian equivalent of the SAT), the GATE (the Indian equivalent of the GRE, including the technical GRE), and the GMAT. Rajat stands out as one of the two students in the country selected by Nokia Research (NRC) Germany for a fully-funded Master’s degree at IIT Delhi and subsequent internship at NRC Germany.
Post MBA (from Babson where he received full fellowship), Rajat was hired by Honeywell as Marketing and Business Development Manager to grow its wireless business. During his 4 years at Honeywell, he helped grow the business from $2M to $25M. In August 2010, Rajat founded e-GMAT with Payal Tandon to fulfill his dream to democratize test prep education by leveraging technology to provide high quality, personalized, and effective education at affordable prices.
At e-GMAT, Rajat takes care of marketing, and setting the direction for the future fusion of learning with technology. Rajat developed the e-GMAT Critical Reasoning course and was a key contributor in the Reading Comprehension and Sentence Correction courses.
Rajat has authored 5 patents. Rajat was an avid cricketer and captained 4 teams. He has also played for the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen in Germany. Currently, he is preparing to run a half marathon.
“If you take on a task, give it your 200%, or else don’t take that task on at all”:- this is what Payal often tells her students, her team members, and even her daughter. A perfectionist to the core, she gives everything her best without cutting any corners. No wonder she has been a topper throughout her academics. She was the topper (the absolute topper, not just 99 percentile) in the 12th grade State of Haryana board exam taken by more than 1 million people.
Payal earned her Chemical Engineering from the highly esteemed BITS, Pilani and then moved to the USA to work for Honeywell Defense and Space Systems, where she worked on several strategic projects including managing the multi-million dollar International Space Station program with NASA. In addition to her management roles, she also worked on improving manufacturing processes to build gyroscopes for spacecrafts.
To advance her passion of making learning effective for one and all, Payal left her lucrative career in 2010 to raise her second child – e-GMAT. She is constantly thinking of better ways to impart skills to people – whether it is how to read a passage more efficiently, how to deconstruct a sentence, or how to train other experts. At e-GMAT, Payal oversees curriculum development, expert training, and all operational activities. In a nutshell, she is committed to the success of all e-GMAT-ers.
Payal holds the belief that excellence can be achieved by combining a methodical process with targeted preparation. A staunch believer in Six Sigma Methodology, she stands by the gospel of “doing things right the first time”. The result of this strong belief system: e-GMAT’s 3-step process for Sentence Correction. Yes, she is the brainchild behind the process that has demystified the horror of Sentence Correction for numerous non-natives.
When Payal is not busy raising e-GMAT, she can be seen savoring her time with her daughter Palak. They share a passion for Hindustani classical music and Bollywood dancing. It’s not surprising to hear them sing a melody or see them dancing.
A.P. is the brainchild behind the e-GMAT platform. He manages the technology platform and work processes. He also oversees development and enhancements of the website. One of his breakthrough inventions is the concept map platform, which allows users to constantly track their weaknesses and strengths at the concept level. He constantly looks for means to provide more targeted learning and practice to our users.
Truly speaking, he is a serial inventor. He blends his inventions in our everyday lives to improve the ways we do things. His latest invention is an automated curtain control system for 20-feet tall curtains that he built using parts from a toy car. He is truly a perfectionist in his field, and it will not be an overstatement to call him an avid Steve Jobs follower.
